Why is my father like this?

Why is my father like this?
Well my father likes remind me of how inadequate i am.. Well for him at least.. I think i do alright in school, but he is always making fun of me and telling me to get out of the house, but almost never lets me sleep at a friends house or go out or anything, that's why i don't get out of the house, cos i cant.. When i get grades like C's he gets all mad and makes fun of me, and when i get A's he doesn't say anything, no reward, no pat on the back no 'good job son' no nothing.. That's why i'm not really motivated to do well in school, i don't really mind what grades i get cos there's really no incentive for me to do good.. Also, when it comes to choosing a job later in life, he always says, " why don't you work on an oil rig? those guys make loads of money and you don't need to be that intelligent' or other jobs that don't require much training, obviously implying that he thinks i can't do good..I really don't care about money, i just want to do something i like.. When i told him what i want to do, he just laughed.. Why does he always make me feel like i can't ever do good? I'm not stupid or anything, if i really want to i could get all A's but i just don't see the point cos i never get anything out of it.. Oh and he makes fun of my mom alot cos she is kind of poor, most of moms family is poor, and he's always saying things (when my grades are bad) ok why don't you go live with the 'winners' in LA? (i live in indonesia with him, biggest mistake of my life i really miss my mom!!) Thanks for reading..

See if you can go back to live with your Mom or other relatives. Your incentive to make good grades is your future out of the situation you are in right now. Make very good grades, go to college if you can, and show your Dad how smart you really are, then shower your Mom with your kindness.
2 :
Some fathers are like that. Its because he was a loser. he behaves so. Thats just dad. ignore him if irritating and go for ur jobs prove u r not vat he thinks. I had it with my aunt. but now i proved and she has shut her mouth.
3 :
Your father is projecting his own insecurities on you. Some fathers feel threatened by a son who may become more competent and talented than they were. You need to be raised in a home with love, not derision. You don't want to hear your father's negaive voice in the back of your head limiting you all your life. If you can get back to your mom you should do so.

Husband is threatening to leave after 20 years of marriage?

Husband is threatening to leave after 20 years of marriage?
We build a beautiful house 3 years ago. Suddenly he's fed up with me and claims that I've been a bad wife through out this marriage. Though, I'm the one still sitting at home taking care of everything waiting on him and the kids, while he's done exactly what he's wanted all these years; many degrees and a good job. I'm supposed to do whatever he expects me to do - I can only enjoy things if he's okay with it. I'm not allowed to get upset or mad but he can yell and throw mean fits and insults anytime because then that's when he's going to leave and make me suffer. I've been through ups and downs with the marriage, now when he's making so much money this is when he wants to leave and as he says, make me provide for myself and will only support me and the kids with very little monthly payment that can hardly pay the rent. Which I'm not sure that I can do because its just hard and scary. All these years I could have been doing something for myself, but he claimed he wanted an "old fashioned marriage" a homemaker. I don't have a degree and I have a small part time job that I've been doing for the past 2 yrs. He claims that he's going to move back to his country (Indonesia) overseas where no one can interfere with him. He has so much money stashed up over there and god knows where else, that no one has access to and has very little savings here (I know this for a fact). How can I get him to support us completely when he's going to get a much lower paying job in his country? I don't have any family members except my brother who's already struggling financially.

hmmm..What a terrible situation you're in. You really did a good job supporting him, but I believe the reality is this, you need to file for divorce right away. This guy is going to scoot the country, and he just might seel the house behind your back too. Hire an attorney immediately. If you are serious about protecting your assets..I have some great tips you can do on Monday morning...just email me.
2 :
i wouldn't care how much money he has, i wouldn't want his money supporting me, all he ever cared about was being filthy rich. i would just leave and never look back. maybe then he'll realize what a true treasure he lost.
3 :
You decide what is best for you and the children. He wants out...let him go and smile. Your attorney will handle the rest.
4 :
as the now old shoe he is leaving you in the closet just because he has money stashed all over the world in his personal accounts does not mean that a good lawyer can't make him cough it up through his nose get legal council and get an injunction to keep him in the USA until the divorce is settled. tmm
5 :
Go out and find the best attorney that will make him pay and will be able to put a freeze on all his finance.

How do you view this ""Inspirational Message""?

How do you view this ""Inspirational Message""?
""Inspirational ! Power of Money, By Adam Khoo ( Singapore 's youngest millionaire at 26 yrs.) Some of you may already know that I travel around the region pretty frequently, having to visit and conduct seminars at my offices in Malaysia , Indonesia , Thailand and Suzhou ( China ). I am in the airport almost every other week so I get to bump into many people who have attended my seminars or have read my books. Recently, someone came up to me on a plane to KL and looked rather shocked. He asked, 'How come a millionaire like you is traveling economy?' My reply was, 'That's why I am a millionaire. ' He still looked pretty confused. This again confirms that greatest lie ever told about wealth (which I wrote about in my latest book 'Secrets of Self-Made Millionaires' ). Many people have been brainwashed to think that millionaires have to wear Gucci, Hugo Boss, Rolex, and sit on first class in air travel. This is why so many people never become rich because the moment that earn more money, they think that it is only natural that they spend more, putting them back to square one. The truth is that most self-made millionaires are frugal and only spend on what is necessary and of value. That is why they are able to accumulate and multiply their wealth so much faster. Over the last 7 years, I have saved about 80% of my income while today I save only about 60% (because I have my wife, mother in law, 2 maids, 2 kids, etc. to support). Still, it is way above most people who save 10% of their income (if they are lucky). I refuse to buy a first class ticket or to buy a $300 shirt because I think that it is a complete waste of money. However, I happily pay $1,300 to send my 2-year old daughter to Julia Gabriel Speech and Drama without thinking twice. When I joined the YEO (Young Entrepreneur' s Orgn) a few years back (YEO) is an exclusive club open to those who are under 40 and make over $1m a year in their own business) I discovered that those who were self-made thought like me. Many of them with net worth well over $5m, travelled economy class and some even drove Toyota 's and Nissans, not Audis, Mercs, BMWs. I noticed that it was only those who never had to work hard to build their own wealth (there were also a few ministers' and tycoons' sons in the club) who spent like there was no tomorrow. Somehow, when you did not have to build everything from scratch, you do not really value money. This is precisely the reason why a family's wealth (no matter how much) rarely lasts past the third generation. Thank God my rich dad foresaw this terrible possibility and refused to give me a cent to start my business. Then some people ask me, 'What is the point in making so much money if you don't enjoy it?' The thing is that I don't really find happiness in buying branded clothes, jewellery or sitting first class. Even if buying something makes me happy it is only for a while, it does not last. Material happiness never lasts, it just give you a quick fix. After a while you feel lousy again and have to buy the next thing which you think will make you happy. I always think that if you need material things to make you happy, then you live a pretty sad and unfulfilled life. Instead, what makes me happy is when I see my children laughing and playing and learning so fast. What makes me happy is when I see my companies and trainers reaching more and more people every year in so many more countries. What makes me really happy is when I read all the emails about how my books and seminars have touched and inspired someone's life. What makes me really happy is reading all your wonderful posts about how this blog is inspiring you. This happiness makes me feel really good for a long time, much much more than what a Rolex would do for me. I think the point I want to put across is that happiness must come from doing your life's work (be it teaching, building homes, designing, trading, winning tournaments etc.) and the money that comes is only a by-product."""

Nice lines: "what makes me happy is when I see my children laughing and playing and learning so fast. What makes me happy is when I see my companies and trainers reaching more and more people every year in so many more countries. What makes me really happy is when I read all the emails about how my books and seminars have touched and inspired someone's life. What makes me really happy is reading all your wonderful posts about how this blog is inspiring you. This happiness makes me feel really good for a long time, much much more than what a Rolex would do for me..."!! But what do we actually do? We pamper children with ''gifts'' of sorts at every opportunity and make them feel good with material things.. with the result we make them seek the joy outside of themselves, that is shortlived and ever keeps one expecting for more and more, still remaining unsatiated!! Govt gives sops to people to attract votes, instead of giving opportunities to grow economically!! Traders give ''gifts'' with their products, to attract customers. Parents bribe kids promising something if they did their study / sports well etc. We are ever held in the grip of material attractions that carry the pride of ''merit'' earned /acknowledged or love shared.. So we are thrown into a conditioning from childhood to look upon material possessions as adding some 'value' to life. We do not take the Budha's insistence to keep desires at bay or more practical advice of great ones like Sai Baba to keep ''a ceiling on desires'' which are very useful tips to us. That a millionaire baled out this gem from his stark personal perception and practice is highly significant and we should care to imbibe the salutary habit in our own lives, for our best interests. Thnx Bull for the quote - many of us miss such nice articles of value, while wasting our time reading the political jokes and news of inconsequence!

Why do Malaysians accept bribery/corruption as a 'norm'?

Why do Malaysians accept bribery/corruption as a 'norm'?
In no time, I forsee a downfall in social ethics and businesses, including government agencies and projects with a similarity to those of Thailand and Indonesia (or worse, Cambodia). Singaporeans can be quite corrupted as well, but they DO often make themselves corrupted overseas whereas Malaysians are proud of being a corrupted lot in business deals and government projects... yes, I mean real PROUD because they boast of 'contacts' and 'people' they know who are corrupted... they know the 'back doors' in business deals and how to get around in dealing with law. In fact, it is as if 'money' is the law for Malaysians... You can buy your 'social status', own the police force (yes... literally), even kill who you dislike and getting away for the crime that is committed for a fee. For those who like comparing Malaysian with other third world countries, keep it up. You're just proving me right when I've said that Malaysia is a third world country... just ahead of time. ironlady, I don't quite get you... are you accusing me for being 'one' of them? What have you against me for saying such things?

It's sad and upsetting isn't it. But remember that every country in every level has corruption/bribery/injustice/ greed. Ever since time. The problem is that corruption and what we're talking about goes right back to the those who practice and tolerate it. Just like pollution, if you pollute and litter, it will affect everyone including you later on. Nobody wins. Also, it's important for a country or its citizens to not think that they are the only ones. It's only now that things are being seen in the open and the whole world is getting worse. Thank you for being aware, concerned and for sharing it with everyone.
2 :
I'm sorry to say, I think you one of them. I seen lots of successful business company who do not practice corruption or bribery, they are successful because they are professionals. I'm proud to say I'm not practicing any of those thing you written here and I'm one of the successful businesswoman and im proud to be malaysian too.

Corruption and Bribery have become Cancer in our society. Very sad this sh*t is happening in our own country. I don't know how to trust any government officer. Even BPR from my opinion is a corrupted agency ... same goes to our law enforcers. Since our government not acted as a good example ... the society also has been effected by such conduct ... simple example is ... when you go for clubbing ... the normal cover charge rate in KL is around RM45 ... but sometimes your friend will asked you to follow him because he can brought you in without any charge because the bouncer know him well or one of his friend ... so? corrupt la tu! :O(
4 :
welcome back bear, i hope you havent lost the passion to share/expose what our government is like. However i do understand that you have to keep quiet for reasons you know best.
5 :
Ironlady must be very very lucky not to have to grease any palms in her path up the corporate ladder, but beware that it is near impossible not to dabble in some form of bribery when it comes to mega-budget projects over here. Once corruption is rooted into society it is extremely hard to get rid of it - look at China and India, so much growth and technological progress but you must have lots and lots of extra $$$ included in your 'capital' to start a business there, if not you can forget it, business will never take off. A friend of mine's dad lost half a million ringgit trying to start in India what he started here in KL - a biotech company specialising in diagnostic products. He had to bribe everybody from the truck driver who transported products from the port to the office in the city, to the local politicians who could 'speed up' the approvals of licenses. Most of that money he spent greasing palms, there was no profit because the return on investment was negative. It is sad to say that since corruption was here even before the British left, it will be here to stay. It was easy for the British to convince the Sultans and rulers back then that everything they did, they did for the good of Malaya. How do you think the Brits convinced the rulers? Money talks.
6 :
Chief Lone Wolf says Malaysian govt is no good. Lone Wolf's clone has lost out because of the practises by the corrupted govt in approving tenders. BN sucks.
7 :
i'm too sexy to receive bribe or to do corruption as they always bribe me out with expensive gifts and money... i think it okey as i love receiving expensive bribes as to balance my expensive lifestyle...maintenance are to high as to kept myself sexy always..
8 :
Most of the countries including malaysia & singapore & thailand having corruption problem. Your statement just shows like that, its the ones who accept bribery is the main problem (which is you said the govern. police what not). -- sometimes you need to know that ppl who gave them money is the worst man of all.. why you want to buy their 'social status' afterall? for me both have to be blame but the main person to be blamed it the hand that give rather than the hand that accept it.. we just can say no to corruption. Can We?? as a muslim for your guys info its a sin to give & accept bribery... & most of the muslims will hold on to that.. which is not accepting / practicing bribery.. So let us make a call to PPL that give bribery rather than the one receiving it..
9 :
Its all very well to blame government officers on corruption, but we should hold those who do the 'bribing' accountable too. I'm the son of a career army officer who has served the country for many years from merdeka till the 80s. When he retired, his pay was equivalent to that of a middle management executive in the private sector, and I can only wonder how the other ranks are getting by. I'm not going to put this as an excuse to accepting bribes, but while we may hold up ideals on how corruption should be eradicated, we should also perhaps look at what instigate it in the first place. I dare say corruption has it roots because people in the public sector at one time had difficulties making ends meet, and once it became a habit, it quickly merged to greed. Bear, I'm just going to say this about comparing ourselves with 3rd world countries. Sometimes, its good to acknowledge that we've had some success to move up the chain, not so much for self congratulations, but more to appreciate the fact that we have some liberties not afforder to some, that perhaps if we had taken a wrong turn, or do take a wrong turn later, we'll be just like them. We can strive to be first world, we should aim for the first world I suppose, but we whle striving to better ourselves, we should also be appreciative for what we have achieved.

Help!I know it sounds weird but how can I convince my parents let me travel on my own?
The funny part is I'm 21 years old,I study medicine abroad, away from my family and home since I was 17.However,my parents still think that they should treat me as if I were 15..The thing is I'm from Greece and I want to start traveling on my own, beginning from Istambul.I have been traveling with my dad since I was 12 in conference-trips in places like Brazil,Indonesia,South Africa, etc. Anybody would ask why do I need my parents' approval to go since I already have the money to make this trip but the thing is that they will immediately say no in the moment I will tell them and their biggest argument as always is gonna be financial blackmail(eg/ "if u want to do things that we disapprove, maybe we should stop paying for your studies, for the house u live in,etc")How should I convince them to "let" me go?I just don't want drama and argues...

If your 21 then it's just a case of however you feel it will go down best and what you want the outcome to be. You can either tell them straight that your going and they'll have to learn to accept it, or you can live with their decision and stay at home so as not to bother them and keep financial aid. Nobody on here is going to be able to tell you how to convince your parents. You need to just think about it, and make your mind up about what you want to do.

It's a Greek thing, I have found they are very controlling, my daughter married one I would advise tho to stay away from the arab countries as they are not the safest area's around How about Asia or Australia-NZ? Singapore is a beautiful country
3 :
Well . I would say become financially independent. Once your school studies are done and you are no longer "bound" to your parents. Other option is let them know how you feel dont say things like you do this and you never let me etc. but start like I would like to .. I feel like .. etc.
4 :
hey, this happen all the time to me. My parents used to be the same. my solution is that i try to SHOW them that I'm a grown up, i could do everything on my own. Tell them if everybody could let their children go travel why can't your parents. This issues would take sometimes to get better. You should talk to your parents but try to prevent all the arguement.

Why do countries with strong economy and low religiousness have higher suicide rate than any other countries?

Why do countries with strong economy and low religiousness have higher suicide rate than any other countries?
I'm not making this up! Even the suicide rate in my country, Indonesia, is increasing, it still hasn't attract international attention and barely discussed on media because suicide is not our biggest issue. Indonesia's big cities have much higher suicide rate and recently there's a trend of committing suicide in shopping malls. It's ironic because big cities have stronger economies and most people claim money can make you happy (once again, I'm not making this up)! Can someone explain it to me? Check Wikipedia for suicide rate by countries if you're not convinced that I'm not making this up!

You insist twice that you're "not making this up", yet you still didn't provide any sources. That's rather suspect. Regardless, even if this was a true correlation, it wouldn't necessarily follow that people would be happier if they were religious and/or more poor.
2 :
Stats or you're making it up. I'll give you one: Sweden. Reason, lack of sleep in the summer has a negative impact on mood.
3 :
It could be that people who have money are more capable of buying what they need to commit suicide more easily so that even if they have less motive to commit suicide they have more means to commit suicide.
4 :
Indonesia is extremely religious. You will need to point me to some statistics with give me rate of suicide per capita. I think you're going to have to convince me of it....I'm doubtful.
5 :
Indonesia has low "religiousness"? If you make that assertion, all your other assertions are suspect.
6 :
I think without religion many people feel empty, or like something is missing from their lives. My Dad was an atheist from a big city who committed suicide so I believe you have a point
7 :
More interesting is the fact that there is no real correlation between the degree of religious belief or the level of wealth and the suicide rates. Epidemiology of suicide http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Epidemiology_of_suicide
8 :
"and most people claim money can make you happy"....no of course not. my grandfather commited suicide....and he was one of the wealthiest people in the city. Certainly he was an unhappy person in general...but the actual reason for his suicide was some very unpleasant health conditions. He was christian, but he obviously didnt take christian ideas all that seriously...since they claim that suicide means hell. But im sure that if he was not christian, he wouldve commited suicide sooner...since in his note he did make an apology to God...
9 :
The grass is always greener on the other side. I would imaging being i a big city where you can see everyone else fake self pretending to be happy because the have all this money could lead one to feel that their live is less by comparison. The mind need a goal an objective. if their is nothing to overcome no obstacles to tackle then life start to loose some of its flavor. i cannot say why some one would kill them selves but people in your country sure seem to be trendy about.

Where is the best place to teach in English in Asia that is near decent surf?
Obviously, I'm sure the majority of people will say Indo, but we all know that Indonesia doesn't pay their teachers squat. So, I guess this question is relative. I'm trying to straddle the line of making money and being near surf. So far, I think the best bet is Taiwan, since they pay their teachers well and Taipei is only 20 miles from the beaches with surf. I believe Korea pays the best, but no surf in Seoul. It sounds like there might be some decent surf in the Hainan province of China, but I have no idea how much the Chinese pay their teachers.... any other ideas? Japan you will only break even because of the cost of living, and the water is cold....

Do creationists in the Tea Party believe the imminent extinction of 20% of plant species is a myth?

Do creationists in the Tea Party believe the imminent extinction of 20% of plant species is a myth?
The Royal Botanic Gardens at Kew Gardens in England has just published a report stating that 20% of all plant species are endangered, and likely to become extinct in my lifetime. The main culprit is the ongoing destruction of the rainforests in order to create farmland, and the main driving force is the Free Market. Brazil has vowed to clear the Amazon in its drive to modernisation; President Suharto sold logging rights to all the virgin forests in Indonesia. It is only a matter of time before treaty agreements between corrupt regimes and China clears the great forests in Africa too. There is little left of the slow-growing Siberian forests closest to the Chinese border. One effect of clearing the forests is that there are no longer roots to bind the soil, which blows or washes away leaving it little use for farming after a few years. Since creationists believe that all species were created by God as they are now, do they also believe that they cannot just disappear because some businesses are making money converting wilderness to palm plantations to power their SUVs when the oil runs out? Does the Tea Party have the same disbelief in a mass extinction in this century in the same way they dismiss global warming? http://www.kew.org/science-conservation/kew-biodiversity/plants-at-risk/index.htm Creationists believe that the creation and extinction of the dinosaurs took place in the last 6000 years. Scientists hold that the dinosaurs were wiped out by a rogue asteroid colliding with Earth 65 million years ago. That was the last mass extinction event on the scale now prophesied by Kew. Recovering from this would quite likely see out human civilisation. And who bought the logs Suharto's associates cut down? Who owned these companies? Who is buying all those goods China is making? And if we have no influence over political events in foreign countries, why do we have ambassadors, and what are we doing in Afghanistan?

2 :
Teabaggers believe that God created man to use up all of the planet's resources in their lifespan, at which point he will rapture them to heaven having left a big f*cking mess that they will be forgiven for.
3 :
why stop at 20% why not all lol
4 :
Not only is this question an obvious troll, it belongs in a different section. "President Suharto sold logging rights to all the virgin forests in Indonesia. It is only a matter of time before treaty agreements between corrupt regimes and China clears the great forests in Africa too. " You are talking about other countries policies. It is impossible for us to control what they do. "Since creationists believe that all species were created by God as they are now, do they also believe that they cannot just disappear because some businesses are making money converting wilderness to palm plantations to power their SUVs when the oil runs out?" Painting with a broad brush today. Not all creationists believe the same thing. Not all Tea Party followers drive SUVs... BTW: Most creationists are taught that we are to take care of the planet. Massive deforestation projects are not considered proper care.
5 :
I hope they care about the environment. What people don't understand is that, yes, species come and go on their own. But we (humans) have sped that up far too quickly. Just turn on the Discovery Channel or Animal Planet, where they document polar bears over a 10 year span and see how quickly the ice really is melting. WE did that. It may have happened on its own eventually but it shouldn't be happening right now. People are just selfish and in denial. There's going to have to be a point where we change our behavior and even try to control the population. Hopefully whatever party is in Washington will understand this!

I'm 18 and I need to get a job in NY. I'm desperate. Help pls?

I'm 18 and I need to get a job in NY. I'm desperate. Help pls?
I'm gonna be 18 this December but I've never worked before.. Well I've worked in a lawyer's office when I was a sophomore during the summer.. but since then I just never tried to get a job anymore.. I keep saying to myself that I'm going to find a job..but what scares me is to actually apply for a job..and asking each store manager if they're handing out job applications.. I'm allergic to rejection So anyways.. I've just come to realize that my family and I are in a financial situation..and my mom forces me to get a job a.s.a.p or we'll be bankrupt. Here's the situation: My family consists of my single mom, my older brother (19), and me. We live in New York. We were 'averagely rich' before we moved here. We are originally from Indonesia. My mom had a lot of savings before (like about 400k) she moved here but now we only have 70k $. She's never worked before and during these 5 years we're here.. she's only earned about 30k dollars from her medical assistant job. So yes, we basically live off from my mom's savings. My brother just got a job at McDonalds and he gives her 500 dollars every month. He's a full time student in college, so he only works part time. I am currently enrolling in a full time college too, and I still haven't got a job. My family keeps looking down and me and keep teasing me because I don't have a job.. More info on my mom: she's a bit high maintenance.. we're Asian so she buys a lot of expensive things.. Oh and recently she just bought a Mercedes.. (And no, please I'm not trying to sound arrogant here.. by no means we are rich at all, but from where I come from, we are considered rich.. so my mom is just trying to keep up with her old lifestyle) So yes.. We're at financial crisis and I need a job!! Anything!! My mom says that I just need to give her 1k a month..or even 500 dollars a month so that we can at least you know.. balance out our spending. And I know it's a little bit pathetic for me to ask you guys for advice..since I'm already 18 and I should have a job already.. I know that I know.. But from this depression and anxiety that I got makes it even harder for me to get a job.. I'm a little bit anti - social so I think of these things as a hard thing to do.. which is not at all.. So please.. What should I do first? I've been researching about making money online but I heard they're all scams? And even if they aren't, it takes too long for them to give u the check and sometimes they pay very little? Please advice me! Thanks alot.

we had been together for six years and he broke up with me after knowing her for 10 weeks. she is from indonesia and told him in her country they don't have sex before marriage. this is all well and good, but she lied about being married still and also hid the fact that she has a two year old son that she has abandoned from him. they have moved in together. she has told him that she would get a divorce, but you have to take classes when there is a child involved. any divorced person will tell you that the classes are only necessary when you plan on keeping custody. he told me they went shopping and she slid 200.00 worth of clothes at him and told him to put it on his card, and he did. he never bought me anything! he keeps calling and telling me to move on and that he wants to marry this girl. can this last? i know how sad and desperate i sound, and it just kills me to hear how totally happy he sounds whenever he calls. i do NOT call him. he called last month to tell me he wasn't calling anymore, and he hasn't. i think about it all the time. i feel so stupid because when he was with me, he had no money and right when he started making money, he left. i keep hoping something terrible will happen to both of them, but somehow i doubt it. i have lost my job. i was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis. everything is getting worse, and his life is taking off, even though he is in an a relationship with a woman who continually lies to get what she wants. i feel stupid! what should i do?

Honey, do you really think his life is taking off? It sounds like he's in a horrible relationship, and he's gonna get screwed. You on the other hand got the long end of the stick, because you are rid of him. You'll understand this in time. I"m sorry about your job and health, but stay positive, because depression will hurt your physical health. Stay strong and good luck.
2 :
I'm sure it's hard to see it from where you're at right now, but from here it seems like you're better off. The guy sounds like an idiot for being with someone who would treat him like a paycheck. It might last and it might not, but you shouldn't be waiting for him to come back. It sounds like you have bigger things to worry you now. I'm sure it sucks, but moving on with your life seems to be the only answer. Leave the past in the past, if he does call again I wouldn't answer.
3 :
I think it's time that you really started taking care of yourself, hon. Start eating healthy foods, start getting exercise (maybe some yoga),take a relaxing bubble bath. Start thinking healthy thoughts, volunteer at a charity, go to church, spend time with friends and thank God that you are rid of him. He sounds like a complete idiot. If he ever calls again, don't answer. Put your energy somewhere else. Take time to heal this and then look for love REAL love. You deserve someone high quality who appreciates you and trust me,he's out there!

should I get an antique Filigree ship appraised?

should I get an antique Filigree ship appraised?
I was just wondering if I should spend the money to get and old Filigree ship appraised. It was my Grandfathers and I know it's at least 75 years old. It is about 10" high and 14" long. It was in a glass case with an old note. I coud barely make out the handwriting, but with the few characters I could make out and google, I figured out the words. "Filigree ship. Made in Ujang Pandang, S. Sulawesi Indonesia" I know appraisals are not cheap, so I was wondering if it is worth pursuing. The only thing I can find online is broaches of filigree ships. This is a model and look pretty neat. Could use a little restoring. thanks

Yeah, well, I WOULD bother! You can call appraisers and see what their fee might be. They may be so interested that they'll do it for free. I honestly believe you have a treasure. Protect it and find a way to evaluate it.

Cons think it's better for a company to survive by paying less, while libs want individuals paid more even if?

Cons think it's better for a company to survive by paying less, while libs want individuals paid more even if?
Is this the difference between the two camps? liberals: even if a company fails, it's better for individual citizens to make good money and have good benefits. conservatives: don't let companies fail, if they have to pay slave labor, or move jobs to Indonesia, it's better than a company failing because they paid good benefits. You conservatives don't have to get all emotional over it... what you're saying is basically, "if the company fails they don't pay anything," so low wages and no benefits are better than nothing, right? Which is what I stated above. Tell me if I'm wrong, not just restate what I said the con position was, and then say something emotional like the other guys are dumb. Not that I expected much, but a little more logic than that. Yes, there are slave wages in this world Mjolnir... but you can have them, which is why I suppose your ancestors carried Mjolnir, and mine Gungnir, the master's weapon.

Do you think the conservative approach actually helps America? Do you think that sending jobs elsewhere is the American thing to do? Conservatives talk about their love of America, but this strategy seems very un-American, doesn't it?
3 :
Yes; Dems treat people like humans. Repubs do what's good for big business at the expense of human decency.
4 :
The company serves a purpose. The welfare recipient simply takes up space.
5 :
That's kind of black and white, there are a lot of gray areas in this topic. Republicans have generally and historically favored corporations over worker rights and compensations, while Democrats have generally and historically favored labor over corporations, but there are nuances and not all democrats and republicans are alike.
6 :
The last two companies I worked for contributed heavily to republicans. One sent an entire plant to Mexico and the other sent my job to India. Spare me.
7 :
Inconvenient Muslim: Low-wage employees are generally not on welfare. They work for a living. and they serve a purpose. employees are the backbone of any business.
8 :
Ummm, I might be nitpicking here, but.... how is it good for the workers if all businesses fail? .....crickets chirping. Ooooh, you didn't think of that.
9 :
Conservatives believe in Limited Government. Limit Power and you Limit Corruption. Anything that is too big to fail is Too Big. - Reduce its size. Reduce its Power and reduce Corruption. Conservatives believe if a Corporation is Failing, they deserve their end. No More Bail-outs. Let the more competent thrive. Powerful Corporations are Corrupt and Conservatives will have nothing to do with them. You FAIL because your question in BOGUS.
10 :
If a company fails.. then they're not paying anybody anything. Something liberals are all too stupid to figure out.
11 :
Conservatives think it's better for a company to keep employing people. Liberals want companies to STOP employing people. Liberals: It's IMPORTANT to make sure a company closes-up; we actually claim workers will be better-off if their employer stops existing. Conservatives: Don't MAKE companies fail because no one gets paid when they do.
12 :
How many Steel Mills do you see out there or ship builders,we used to have the best in the world and they paid good wages. What killed them? Enviromental mandates Union greed High taxes The companies were operating in the RED,so they closed their doors,42000 of them.
13 :
You̢۪ve presented the extreme sides of the issue but essentially you̢۪ve captured the spirit of where the two sides stand. Under the conservative approach investors will prosper but the American workers suffer. Eventually Americans will be unable to be major consumers and the companies will have to open overseas markets in order to make money. Under the liberal approach, companies paying decent wages can̢۪t compete with companies who outsource overseas for cheap labor. That situation requires some sort of protectionist system and there are problems inherent in international trade with any protectionist approach. Since all individuals are not investors and most people have to earn money in order to become investors, we must protect the wages of American workers. American workers can't compete with low-paid foreign workers. Evidently some sort of area in between is necessary.
14 :
That's why I say that outsourcing should be illegalized and if a foreign company wants to sell in the US then they need to provide Americans with gainful employment. Repugnicans are not partial to common sense, there is no way around it, if Americans workers are gainfully employed then they have money to spend fueling the economy.
15 :
Conservatives just feel that the government doesn't belong in the business of dictating wages. Why doesn't this make sense to liberals? If I owned a McDonald's and wanted to pay my employees $1 an hour, and the Burger King across the street was hiring people at $10 an hour, who in their right mind would work for me? I just think it should be up to the employer what they choose to pay their employees. I would rather have the free-market setting a minimum wage than have a government tell business owners what they have to pay their employees. Where I live, all businesses pay well above the minumum wage because of the oil-industry. Fast-food restaurants start their employees off at $10 an hour, even though the minimum wage is over $2 an hour less. At the very least, I think individual states should be the only governments that can set a minimum wage.
16 :
I'm always amused when some dipstick comes on here and tells me what I allegedly think or believe. You don't realize just how arrogant and ignorant it makes you appear, especially considering how wrong you are about it. Conservatives do not believe any such thing; conservatives believe in economic freedom, where the company decides for itself what compensation agreement it should reach with its employees, and whether it should move operations in order to improve its profitability. We also believe that companies should be allowed to fail and that they should go through bankruptcy proceeding if they do fail, with senior creditors getting their repayment per very longstanding rules of bankruptcy law. We understand far more about economics and business than you seem to be capable of. We know that employees are a resource and commodity that commands certain prices in the market. Companies cannot just reduce pay without consequences, which is why they will generally automate what they can, outsource those areas that are least cost-beneficial to the company and try to increase productivity of those employees it deems essential to its success. No "slave wages", because that's simply a fantasy or crackpipe-dream on your part - it isn't reality. The thing is that a company that goes bankrupt doesn't end up paying anybody good wages, so I don't know what you're blathering about, and, sadly, neither do you. -- I never said there were not slave wages in the world, you obtuse excrescence, but there certainly are none in these United States.
17 :
Um I believe conservatives are more for weak government and therefore they would let the business fail.
18 :
Let the Koolaid flow.... The problems we have aren't about companies being allowed to fail or not. That is a symptom of the root problem. The problem is in the question.... What is the role of a corporation in society? The point of a business is to provide a good or service to society. If it is a good or service that is demanded by more ppl, the business profits and can grow. And, by default, requires more employees to fulfill that goal. So, by allowing a business to be profitable, we allow it to grow which provides more jobs. Government's ONLY role in that process is to make sure that those running the business do not cheat or abuse the consumers with cheap or dangerous products or services that do not truly serve the consumer and the business does not MONOPOLIZE the market. Now here is where things get fouled up.... When the govt. starts MAKING companies responsible for "benefits" (which were originally "incentives" for getting the best qualified employees to work for the company rather than for a competitor), we make those "benefits" "entitlements" (something that every employee SHOULD get whether that employee is a benefit to the company or not). We hinder the business' original purpose. Which means we hinder its growth and without growth, less demand for more labor. OR we force that company to find less expensive options to grow.... And in a global market place we are now in, that means looking at choices such as moving operations overseas or outsourcing jobs to other countries. The job of a business is not intended to be a job creator or an insurance provider. That is forcing the company to provide different services to consumers than the company may have started out intending to provide. And the difference in approaches is.... Liberals think a company should be forced to provide entitlements even at the expense of survival of the company (because ppl "deserve" certain things). Conservatives believe that a profitable company will, by necessity, provide jobs and benefits to their employees if not forced or limited by others who may have a different agenda.

Are American media deliberate in not providing enough information on Barack Obama - for better informed votes?

Are American media deliberate in not providing enough information on Barack Obama - for better informed votes?
They did not go to St. Francis of Assissi in Jakart to get data. They hid his mishandling of the Senate Subcommittee on European Affairs where he never held a single meeting and has not visited Europe excep Ukraine and Russia but has gone to Middle East, Kenya and Indonesia. They didn't pay attention to his Afghaniztan committee. They didn't cover his letter to the state and city officials asking to fund "slumlord businessman" Rezko's projects but instead absolved Obama on any culpability on Rezko's activities and his connection to Auchi. They have not published his conduct in accepting questionable funds during his senatorial campaign. They have not questioned the circumstances behind his Georgian mansion. They have not tried to make a money trail on the superPAC Hopefund, PACs, and lobbyists supporting Obama. They paid no attention to his unlikely kind of patriotism. They always act as cheerleader in every Obama win. Where will the voters go for fair and balanced information?

The media has been throwing Obama pillows this entire election. If or when Obama becomes President I am afraid it will be a rude awakening for the American People. And we can all blame the press.

I go to the internet and search for info. Usually they are foreign newspapers that have different articles than we are fed here. I watch FOX and CNN. CNN is still liberal but much fairer that MSNBC and the others. Fox carries all the candidates and even though they tend to lean towards conservatives they haven't covered any scandals, except for the Jakarta story.
9 :
There are NO scandals on Obama, which is why you have to come on Y!As and make it up. Jakart is a NON ISSUE. Saying it is an issue does NOT make it so. I can say I am Santa all day long, yet somehow I am still NOT Santa.

Court holding my passport, because I divorce my American Husband?

Court holding my passport, because I divorce my American Husband?
I need an advice what should I do ? I am in divorce process with my American husband due to domestic violent, we have one daughter. we put our daughter in my country with my parents on February the 2009, I think that the best decision I make for her at least she is safe. I am Indonesian an a green-card holder. This divorce really stressing me because my husband make everything so hard on me. He accusing me kidnapping our daughter ? which he the one that agree for me to put her in Indonesia so I can work and put all the money I make to his account so he can buy his TOYS (car, motorcycle, video games etc ), if I am not working he said that I owe him money for rent coz I life with him and grocery money coz i eat his food. I am his wife ? The divorce judge decided to holding my Indonesian passport, so my husband can go to my country and bring our daughter. because he want to be the primary care for her, which he don't even care for his 5 daughter with his ex wife ???? The reason why Judge holding my passport is because she concern that I will run away back to my country, and never come back with my daughter. The problem is I need my passport back because I have to report my self to my Indonesian embassy and renew my passport. To be able to process all that the Indonesia embassy want my original passport. I call my lawyer and asked him if I can get my passport back ? my lawyer said I can't get it back because the Judge worried that I will run away ??? Is it Legal for Court holding my passport ? I am not a Criminal ? I am the victim of Domestic Violence ? Until now there is no action that my husband will make passport and go to my country ? I know all he want to do is get me disported. He is mad that he can't using me as his gold digger ! He don't care about me or his daughter ... ! it's been 1 and half year i didn't see my daughter ! I missed her so much, but I want to fight for my Right. I don't want just give-up !!! Please Help me .... ???? did anybody know a good attorney in Chattanooga-TN that will fight for my right ? After I get everything write in the paper that I'll be the Primary care of my daughter I will bring her back to US. Assuming you are genuine...hmmmm...that's assuming a lot already... BEST RECOURSE Immediately contact the Embassy of Indonesia or the nearest Consulate, and describe your predicament in detail. It's possible/probable that they will help you. This is not the best forum for this type of question.
2 :
Yes it was legal for the Judge to take your passport away for kidnapping. You alone cannot make the decision to take your daughter out of the US, even if you have custody. If you are victim of domestic abuse ? File charges against him. I doubt you will get another passport even if you did ? you will probably not be able to leave the US. If you no longer want to be with him file for a divorce. Kidnapping a child is a criminal action.
3 :
I agree with Bog. Contact your embassy or consulate for help. This involves many different types of law, so the Indonesian authorities can help you find the right attorney. Best of luck to you.
4 :
Did you get your daughter an Indonesian passport, and did she enter Indonesia on an Indonesian passport as Indonesian citizen, child of Indonesian citizen? If Indonesian citizen residing in Indonesia, your attorney might be able to argue against US jurisdiction. Or did she enter as US citizen with an Indonesian visa? If she had US passport, her father had to sign his consent to that, which might be the basis for defense against "kidnapping" charge, since he gave his signed authorization for her passport & travel. It's a pity you returned to the US. You should have remained in Indonesia yourself and given up the green card. Foreign victims of domestic violence are ONLY safe by leaving the country & returning to their own country. Once domestic violence charges are filed, the abusers have a tough time getting visas anywhere, as well as being disinclined to chase interenationally after their victims - they find someone else who's an easier & more proximate victim, if anything. However, abusers find it easy to stalk, harass, etc, a victim who remains (or tries to) in the US. Your safest move was to get out of the US & stay out. Now see if your nearest Indonesian consulate can issue a replacement passport or travel document to get you back to your own country. Otherwise, you have to hire a divorce attorney who will fight custody - a very long and costly battle, and you could end up dead. This guy wants to get you - bad! And you fouled up by failing to file domestic violence charges against him, then file for divorce + custody, then get you & daughter (on her Indonesian passport) out of US permanently.
5 :
The child should not have left the US. As for the court, it has absolute power in the US. You may find another judge in another court who will overrule the judges decision but this is not likely. From where I sit it looks like you and your husband were never sincere with your visa application. I hope I am wrong for every bodies sake.

Unless he plans on paddling his board across the ocean he can't get on any international flight without parental permission or enter another country without a visa, so this is a completely impossible plan. Even if he got parental permission, non-citizens are not allowed to just hang out indefinitely in foriegn countries with no money or means of support. Both of you need a reality check before one or both of you ends up in trouble with the law. Best way to "help" him would be to encourage him to deal with his dream realistically, stay in school until he graduates and surf on summers and holidays in places in the States he has access to.
3 :
Why did you ask this in water sports
4 :
In South Africa, the age of majority is 18, so that plan is out. You can tell him that he can't build a hut on a beach in P.E. either! Maybe you should ask him why he wants to run away. Is his home life bad? Does he perhaps fight with his parents? What has made him so unhappy that he wants to run away? I think that you should perhaps encourage him to speak to an adult he can trust, he doesn't sound very happy.

How Can I bring an Indonesian maid to America?

How Can I bring an Indonesian maid to America?
I am Indonesian (mostly) and I grew up with 4 housemaids and 2 drivers. It's actually common in my country. I would like to have an Indonesian maid as well from Indonesia, but... 1. I was wondering how you can bring them to America. 2. Where do I find them? I mean what agency can I look online? And for those of you asking, the housemaids in Indonesia does not wear a uniform. They do live in our house and we pay them of course. I'm not lazy or anything, but I would like to work to make more money for our family and will be needing the extra help. Thank you. Hi Guys, It's not a matter of what's cheaper and stuff. It's just that having a maid that's the same ethnic as mine would be beneficial as they understand our culture, food and how Indonesians raise their children. And for those who gave an ignorant answer, please don't bother answering. America is made up of people from all over the world. Thanks.

I don't think you can. You would have to pay them prevailing wage (which basically means you probably will spend as much on salary as you yourself earn). You would have to show that you can't find an US citizen able and willing to do the job. Which won't happen. Hire a local cleaning woman or local babysitter for a few hours, will be much cheaper and easier.
4 :
well, that would depend. If you are a US citizen or a green card holder, you won't be able to do it. however, if you are an Indonesian citizen and here in some sort of nonimmmigrant status, you could have her apply for a B1 visa. you would need to have a contract with her showing that you will pay at least minimum wage and some evidence of your ability to pay that. there's no guarantee that it would be approved though.

I feel that my husband is telling I am just a wife and he can replace me anytime?
A few years ago I had asked my husband to chat with me online and he says oh I don't know how to do it and I am embarassed to learn. Now he would chat with his folks in Indonesia. I had asked him last night why was it before I had asked you to chat with me online instead of calling so nothing to pay and he says BUT THIS IS MY BROTHER. I was hurt by that. Nothing really matter to him when I am involved. He would hurt me, cuss at me, I even lost my haring on my left ear and somewhat on my right. It hurts me so much that I don't matter to him. I don't know how to live like this with him. THen the other day I saw his email about sending money but he can't do it right now because he says of financial problem here. It seems like it coming to me that he never really loved me. He just wanted to come here to the US to make better money and move on with his life. I had asked him I can't have anymore kids. Dr said that to us so I asked "Can you have the surgery? instead of me because I will have to be hospitalized?" He says "NO. If thats the problem lets just not have sex at all" Now I am realizing I have the feeeling he wants to have another family. He must be waiting for me to make more money then he will leave. I don't know what to do. I feel hurt and used. I don't know how to live wiht him under a roof. I feel betrayeed.

What makes you trust a website which sells stuffs online? ?
What makes you trust a website which sells stuffs online? 1. Payment method: Would you trust a website which requires you to transfer the money through a bank and not to pay by using credit card or paypal service? 2. Any countries which you avoid to buy products from? What about Indonesia? 3. Any other criteria that might help you decide? Thank you all guys for all your opinions..

1 Payment method: Using ... to transfer the money to the A(e-shop host), then the B (website/dealer) send the goods to you, after you confirm to A, then A will give the money to B. 2,3 do not know, but after condition 1, the 2, 3 seems do not matter.
2 :
I trust it if trusted people trust it and have gotten things from it. And also if it uses a site like yahoo for ordering.
3 :
I only buy from sites that allow payment with paypal. There is just too much risk to bother with the others. Generally, if I am paying with paypal I will trust them, especially because asian countries are the ones which sell directly cheap stuff. If I am buying off a website I tend to type their name into a search engine and try to find some feedback or discussion from other users on it. If there is nothing, I won't buy off them, if it is negative, saying the goods never arrived I won't either. Sometimes I also email them and ask them a general question about the item. You can tell by their answers sometimes if their legit.

Word of mouth and reputation is the best criteria IMO. I don't buy from sites that I haven't heard of without thorough research. This includes searching for the company on ripoffreport.com and BBB. Secondly read their Privacy Policy and Terms of Agreement. If anything seems suspicious, be suspicious. As for payment method, no I would not 100% trust any business that didn't take MC or Visa over the Internet. For one you're subjected to your own bank policy that may or may not support fraud 100%. If using CC look for the Verisign logo or Verified by Visa. Secondly see if it asks for the 3 digit security code and make sure that while you're entering in your bank information that your address bar reads HTTPS://. If it does not, DO NOT continue with the transaction. Personally I don't buy from other countries due to the high cost of shipping, so I don't have an answer for you.

What the hell are you trying to find out? This sounds like a rant almost.
2 :
lay off the Kool-aid and get a new job.
3 :
I might join in the search, but I might not give it much and I certainly wouldn't donate money if I was still out of work.
4 :
Yes, I would look for the child and offer any help I could but it would be God's will if the child is found. My mother alwys said whatever you do good or bad will come back to you one way or another, so always try to do good.

Many entrepreneurs resort to such tactics to, apparently, reduce the cost of manufacture or input in the plant by employing unskilled or semiskilled labour. The persons who might have given their entire life for the growth of that company are summarily dismissed without any acknowledgement. Sometime they do not even pay their rightful dues also. There is something called divine justice. when one feels that all is going well, divine justice starts- an accident may take place in the plant of office, some near one may fall seriously ill, somebody is kidnapped, some family member dies, someone embezzles large amounts of money, a huge consignment may get lost in transit which may not be covered by insurance, breakdown of some critical machines, a legal case is filed against him and many more such happenings could take place. When all seems to be well divine justice takes place- say the persons is horoscope is very good and he had achieved great heights in business. To break this momentum of growth due his past wrong doings, A child will take a birth in the family say to his son, daughter, brother, sister, wife's brother, wife's sister, or a grand child in similar lineage in that child's horoscope the person's downfall, sudden problems, loss in business, his ill health etc. would be mentioned. No body, generally be able to stop it. If you interfere this nature's or divine justice, you may also suffer a similar fate. This karma phal should not be intrupted. I do not know whether you have experienced this, but some persons may have seen some gurus and saints who helped their disciples in trouble, have observed to suffer on behalf of their disciples miseries. Some very large industrial houses are traded off, some large businesses gets closed down without any reason, it is still happening- very large industrial enterprises are being taken over by the Indian industrialists and businesses to the unliking of the europeans. Who had ever thought of this phenomenon. Many persons who have done wrongs in the past, will suffer in due course, no body is spared. It would be wise not to interfere with karma phal. Hope this clarifies. If there is any doubt you can write me.

Do you complain about the U.S. economy while giving your money to Asia?

Do you complain about the U.S. economy while giving your money to Asia?
I am not a fan of Wal-Mart. In fact, i'll spend a little more money not to shop there. I am wondering why some people like it so much. I went there a few times and stopped, because all that store sells is low quality crap that's made in China, Indonesia, India, the Philippines, Mongolia, Taiwan... In fact, I think it should be renamed to China-Mart. They like to move into small "everyone knows everyones' business" towns, sell their low quality crap so cheap that they drive the local mom and pop shops out of business, on purpose, and then when they've obliterated their competition they raise the prices. I don't understand why people complain about the economy, oh, poor me, wah wah wah, and then they go shopping and buy things that were made in different countries in Asia instead of buying products that are made in America? Yeah... that makes sense.

I make a point to buy products made here in the USA --- So no I don't complain...... But most Americans don't even give a poop..... So they can just enjoy there ride in there Hyundai while on the way to the unemployment office......
2 :
On that premise, residents of Ohio should not buy goods made in Texas.
3 :
it's all about low cost of producing goods; consumers want cheap products so producers have no choice but to lower the price by reducing cost; this will benefit both US consumers and producers though jobs r created in these low cost producing countries
4 :
Buying low cost stuff from wall mart keep Americana's Real Incomes higher. If people want to buy expensive products, then they can. Why is it a problem that people want to save money. Big chain stores like wall mart have lower cost per unit because they are large. They can take advantage of their economies of scale where small 'mom & pop' stores have to higher prices because of their small size. Saving money is not a bad thing.
5 :
'they've obliterated their competition they raise the prices'. Really? You really think that could happen? That sounds like something you'd read in a high school economics textbook. You can't obliterate your competition and then jack up the prices because the act of raising prices will push people away from shopping at your business and allow others to open shop and compete with you again. I do shop at wal-mart and have honestly not seen prices rise. We had a local business that went out of business after wal-mart came to town, the employees now work at wal-mart earning higher wages. And us consumers, we have more purchasing power thanks to their 'low quality crap that's made in China...' The reason why so much 'crap' is made in China rather than the states is because our wages are artificially too high. State, Federal and Union set wage rates, as well as taxes make it too expensive to create goods here. Why do you think Toyota is still in business when GM needed to be 'bailed out' only to fail anyways? I'm a musician. I can buy a good trumpet from yamaha for around 1.5k or one made by kanstul for 2.5k Why would I want to spend an extra 1k just to buy U.S.made? I'm not rich, 1k can help me out alot. There is more to this picture than China.

hi, it seems I'm late in answering your question. I am a citizen of Indonesia, and I was living on the island of Bali, If you do not go to Bali please contact me via facebook: Zamzama ribkhy then I will help you to travel to Indonesia.

As long as you are streetwise 20 is not too young. You should look at hotels online. Where does your friend live? You should stay close to her. There are nice and not too expensive hotels in Sanur and Denpasar. Nusa Dua is beautiful and very safe ,but its expensive. Benoa is cheaper. If you take bimmos rather than taxis the transport is cheap, or you can go on the back of a motor bike. Fruit is cheap and supermarkets are reasonable, too.
