Only give to established charities like the red cross/red crescent, Oxfam, or the UN aid organizations. DO NOT give to the people on the street with the cans. Go online and find a charity that is internationally recognized.
2 :
NO!! I keep my money in my wallet. I didn't see any one helping anyone in South Florida last year.
3 :
I am Australian. We have medical staff, aid workers and charities there now. If you would like to help out, there are people who will oversee the distribution of the aid and help these poor people get their lives back on track. They have been through so much already.
4 :
Learn about a charity before donating. Some charities have well established networks in Indonesia, while some are less experienced, and the money is more likely to be wasted. When asked about their needs, many villagers said "We need fifteen chickens and a goat". Not a truck, or lumber, they could get that on their own. What they needed was a quick and steady food supply. Charities that have that kind of knowledge are the best.

This is a hard question to answer. It's hard to know what money is spent on during nature disasters. I am so hesitant to get because I hear so many bad stories. My mom always taught me that it's the thought that counts. If you give money from your heart to help others this is the most important part. I hate that the unemployment rate is low in the US and I am working as hard as I can to make a living and decide to help others out even if it's just a little. During our hurricane disasters last year I gave $100.00 this was all I could afford at the time. Then months later I hear that different organization misused this money. I felt so cheated and the money wasn't going to help me out. I tried to put myself in the vitims shoes. They have people giving money to help them out and the people that we are trusting with the money are spending foolishly.

Red Cross is a good one to contribute to. I helped out doing insurance adjusting when they had the hurricanes down there. We drove from Minnesota to help the best we could and it seemed like there wasn't enough time in the day. I put in 16-20 hour days helping. It was all I could do. Your heart is in the right place. I admire you for that.

Indonesian officials are said to be very corrupt, so you’d better give your money to Red Cross or a big international charity, which goes there personally and not just transfer the money to a bank account.

If you were given the chance to travel the world freely, without restriction or money worries...?

If you were given the chance to travel the world freely, without restriction or money worries...?
Which countries would you not mind skipping and why? [Don't make this a "race" issue...just answer based on the country and what it has to offer]. I wouldn't mind missing Australia (no offence guys, but been there, done that. Plus it's just across the ditch so I can see it whenever I want). I also wouldn't mind skipping All of Africa (except Egypt), Netherlands and Indonesia.

With all the terrorism going on I would limit my travels to just Italy. I just came back from Costa Rica. I have had my fill of traveling lol
2 :
I would skip out on africa, except egypt, like you said. I would also skip out on random countries like Bratislava or Yemen. Whats in those countries anyways?!
3 :
at the moment, Libya and Yemen
4 :
I already have the ability and the chance to do such...

I think Australia is a great country. Went there last year and it was FABULOUS. So much better than the USA. I also love many parts of Africa as I lived there for a number of years. I would skip Libya, Iran, Iraq, most places in the middle east. They are all a little stir crazy there, but they always have been.
6 :
No place where there is a war going on:Afghanistan,Irak,Congo... Places i would skip Japan Russia The UK Alaska Paris Italy Saudi Arabia Iran Lebanon Morroco & many many more...
7 :
Hmm well all countries that don't speak english.... So basically I would go to: America, Australia, England, Scotland, Ireland, Antigua and Barbuda, the Barbuda, New Zealand. I might go to tokyo aswell, and turkey, aswell as egypt, but I would prefer to be able to communicate with other people. -.- Thats the reason I opt for english speaking countries... Cause I only know english. I would also go to the netherlands! :D

There are positives in just about any country.

Did Obama do the right thing by relieving Indonesia of its $30 million debt to the USA?

Did Obama do the right thing by relieving Indonesia of its $30 million debt to the USA?
Indonesia owes the United States $30 million. Yesterday, Obama told them that since they are having such a hard time, they don't have to pay it back as long as they promise to not cut down any trees on one of their islands. Was this the right thing to do since the US needs money badly? Was this the right thing to do since technically that money belongs to the taxpayers of America, making it OUR money in which we had no deciding factor? I understand that it's chump change, but wouldn't it still be better than nothing? And yeah it did help to preserve the nature on that island, but couldn't we have used that money to preserve the nature in our own country?

$30 Million sounds like chump change to me after hearing figures such as a 3.6 Trillion budget and a 700 Billion Bailout.
2 :
In the US budget 30 million is a drop in the bucket. It's the lose change we would give to any charity sitting outside wal mart.
3 :
30 million is nothing compared to the trillions Obama is spending.
4 :
As long as he doesn't do it again I'll be ok...
5 :
Well you have to admit Obama is good at giving taxpayers money away, and I am pretty sure that Indonesia will be in need of another loan soon.
6 :
Ok like that other guy said 30 million wouldn't do MUCH but I wouldn't ever say oh hey that 30 million yeah, just keep it. BUT it is to reserve an island...so just think of it as a really expensive way to make a nature reserve. LOL if you think in the long run we might have screwed them over I bet that helped their economy a lot
7 :
Its not Israel, its a Muslim country.
8 :
30 million is less than what it would cost for us to set up a national park. I don't consider it giving money away as much as it is using our influence to keep the environment from being destroyed. That is much more important than a mere 30 million dollars in the long run.
9 :
It's ridiculous. Please take a look http://www.sweetliberty.org/issues/hoax/bluebeam.htm
10 :
Sucking up to his Muslim friends again no doubt, oh, and he went to school there, considering foreigners aren't allowed to be schooled there it makes on wonder

I don't find this answer to be abusive or offensive but,in my opinion, yes they're seeking for money. They build houses and buildings, they don't care about the tress or environment.Infact, they're trying to make buildings as much as they can.If you type "Jakarta" or "Surabaya" at Google image, you an see how the cities look like.Lack of trees, really hot, dirty, polluted.Big houses in Indonesia has a very small yard. The forest that you see on TV is on Papua, which is far away from, Jakarta, the capital city, seperated by the sea.The true Indonesia is the Java island.
