Did Obama do the right thing by relieving Indonesia of its $30 million debt to the USA?
Indonesia owes the United States $30 million. Yesterday, Obama told them that since they are having such a hard time, they don't have to pay it back as long as they promise to not cut down any trees on one of their islands. Was this the right thing to do since the US needs money badly? Was this the right thing to do since technically that money belongs to the taxpayers of America, making it OUR money in which we had no deciding factor? I understand that it's chump change, but wouldn't it still be better than nothing? And yeah it did help to preserve the nature on that island, but couldn't we have used that money to preserve the nature in our own country?

$30 Million sounds like chump change to me after hearing figures such as a 3.6 Trillion budget and a 700 Billion Bailout.

In the US budget 30 million is a drop in the bucket. It's the lose change we would give to any charity sitting outside wal mart.

Well you have to admit Obama is good at giving taxpayers money away, and I am pretty sure that Indonesia will be in need of another loan soon.

Ok like that other guy said 30 million wouldn't do MUCH but I wouldn't ever say oh hey that 30 million yeah, just keep it. BUT it is to reserve an island...so just think of it as a really expensive way to make a nature reserve. LOL if you think in the long run we might have screwed them over I bet that helped their economy a lot

30 million is less than what it would cost for us to set up a national park. I don't consider it giving money away as much as it is using our influence to keep the environment from being destroyed. That is much more important than a mere 30 million dollars in the long run.
