I'm a latecomer at kicking off my career, where should I start?

I'm a latecomer at kicking off my career, where should I start?
Three simple questions, but please excuse the details. I'm 24 years old, female, living in Jakarta Indonesia, and a sophomore in college studying communication management. I'm quite knowledgeable at basic business administration, public relations, marketing, world cultures, philosophy and public speaking, and am a gifted trilingual. Previous jobs I've had include hosting a radio talk show, producing a theatre production, hosting concerts and seminars as master of ceremony (MC), interpreting, translating, make up artist, and HR intern at a small company marketing consumer goods. The problem is, I've never achieved anything consistently significant in these jobs because they're mostly project based and I didn't network enough to consistently have projects on my plate. And because I always seem to be starting over, I've never made enough money to support myself either. Other challenges that have stopped me from launching a career were mostly personal, such as abusive relationships, family conflict, and very frequent international relocations in my late teens & early twenties. While I've done my best to detach my private life from my professional setting, I still subconsciously carry a lot of emotional baggage that I don't even know is there. This has affected the way I make decisions and relate to people. I am, however, getting help in dealing with this baggage, and expect that I will recover once I start seeing results in my professional life (i.e. reputation, sustainable achievements, and money). I had meant to start working last year, but abandoned a pending job offer orted the plan when I got trapped into producing a theater production for a businessman who casted this vision of a great theater company but did nothing to follow it up. Before this, my confidence level in entering the workforce had been recovering and I was excited about starting to work... but since the theater company didn't work out as expected, I feel like a loser who had been cheated on again. However, I don't want to create an identity as one who never finishes what she started, so we decided to press on by doing street performances for charity. In the meantime I will spend less time working there and more time on finding a real job that I love, makes a difference in the lives of others, and makes money. The thing is, at this point I feel lost, and need to recover my confidence that had corroded when the theater company missed my expectations. If I didn't feel that way, I could probably see my options more clearly and have more courage to make wise decisions. I want a career that fits my talent and passion (i.e. writing, speaking, and conceptualising creative ideas). Other than creative writing and public speaking, I don't really have much experience or expertise, but I do know a little bit about a lot of stuff and am a fast learner. People have told me that I am intelligent, good looking, and drive extra miles to produce excellent results. I prefer jobs that aren't set in an office, are deadline oriented but flexible with hours and methods, and facilitate me to meet a myriad people who are beneficial to my professional network. Anyhow, it boils down to these three questions: 1. What jobs should I consider, where can I learn more about them, and how can I network so that I can consistently have plenty of options when it comes to choosing my projects? 2. Which competitive edges should I sell, so that people will want to hire me although I'm about to hit quarter life and have limited experience? 3. What are some practical things I can do to pick myself up so I don't get too bogged down with the emotional baggage and have more confidence & energy to break through with my career? Thank you so much! God bless you.

Wow, just reading your question made me feel stupid compared to you. Geez, you have lots of experience. Strong work ethics. I don't even know what to say, im afraid that you'll think im dumb haha. Well anyways i would suggest going into politics. There you can speak out, work hard, drive your ideas to reality. Or you can try your hand in Hollywood, Bollywood. It will be hard and lots of leaps of faith but with a brain like yours you can manage it. Everybody has there falls. Just depends how high you bounce back up. Don't kick yourself to hard. Hope this helps. Im sure you knew all this already. Good luck.

How can I make my tour easy and less expensive in Jakarta?

How can I make my tour easy and less expensive in Jakarta?
I want to visit Jakarta. I want to spend a little money because I have no more money to make my tour expensive. I need a middle class local hotel within $ 10 per night. Can any one help me to inform the hotel address ?

Even in the outskirts of Jakarta you wont find a hotel for 10 Dollar. A cheep unrated hotel about 20 km away from the center may cost 20 Dollar. And then you have a problem with transportatin to the center. Not for the prices, traffic in Jakarta is a nightmare. It is pretty easy to be a few hours on the road to go somewhere.
2 :
trust me, its not TTHAT expensive there i think you'd actually be able to live off for like 100$ for a week!

You can go to a street called Jalan Jaksa (Jaksa street). It's a narrow street in the downtown area, famous for its cheap hostels. Plus because it's basically in the heart of the city, it's quite easy to go places. I'm not quite sure about the price, but it's probably ranging somewhere between a little below $10 to $20. from the airport just take a DAMRI bus (Rp15,000 or 20,000) to Gambir central train station. Just ask directions to Jalan Jaksa, it is within walking distance, around 20-30 minutes depending on your walking speed and the accuracy of the directions. You can also find a lot of small and cheap eateries ("warung" in Indonesian) also mid range pubs and cafes. for more info click http://www.jalanjaksa.com/ Transports around Jakarta can be dirt cheap or expensive. You can take the regular bus for Rp2,500 (approx $0.22). You can also take the more comfortable air-con bus for Rp6,000 ($0.53). Other means of transportation includes - Transjakarta bus (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/TransJakarta), the lanes are within walking distance from Jalan Jaksa, for Rp3,500 ($0.31) you can go around the city and back if you don't leave the bus shelters. The buses go in their dedicated lanes, so they will not get caught in traffic jams. - Bajaj (three wheeled auto rickshaw) which only operates in limited areas, from Rp5,000 to Rp20,000 or more, depends on the distance and how hard you can bargain. - Motor taxi (known locally as Ojek), starting from Rp5,000, depending on distance and bargain. - Taxi, several range of fares. Use from Express cab company (white paint) for a cheaper fare, blue bird group (blue paint for a more expensive fare) - trains. ranges from Rp1,000 to Rp2,000 (to Bogor) for economy trains or Rp5,500 for air con trains, or Rp9,000-11,000 for express trains. the nearest train station, Stasiun Gondangdia, is about 15-20 minutes walk from Jalan Jaksa.
4 :
there no hotel in $10 range.the best is $30-$45 range.its better to take a hotel which is safe.jalan jaksa is quite ok.i usually stay in formulae 1 hotel in menteng.its abt $40.safe and within range of any place to go.

Is part of what makes America such a great country that we take care of countries like Haiti when they need us?

Is part of what makes America such a great country that we take care of countries like Haiti when they need us?
Liberal or conservative, we can all agree, we need to help people in need. I really could care less how much money we spend to help the Haitians, when people are dying it's our duty as Americans to help them. It's what we did in WW2 when we helped rebuild Europe, it's what we did in Indonesia, and we will do the same for Haiti. Agreed? I'm not trying to discount the efforts of other countries, but I do think America is exceptional in giving to other people in need. I would be heartbroken to see that ever change.

I hate to agree with you but I certainly do on this point.
2 :
If that is what makes America a great country today , then the entire world is full of great countries , it is a good thing :)
3 :
Agreed.
4 :
Well, I agree with you because I'm a humanitarian...however, some people are much more altruistic. Think of all the sweat shops in Haiti that provide cheap goods to corporations like WalMart at very low prices that they sell at a huge profit. It was the same with WW2. Genocide is occuring right now in Darfur and no one does anything about it. Doesn't it make one wonder why? I guess it's possible to be "selectively humanitarian."
5 :
Of course, that's what makes up most of America, our generosity.
6 :
America is the greatest country in the world, and we should help those in desperate need when we can. We have to set the standard and lead by example.
7 :
love is in the air (for now)
8 :
Agreed.

Way to load the question. But by your loose 'definition' of greatness, other countries are therefore equally great if they have also contributed their efforts to other countries, which they do, all the time, including WW2 (which the U.S. joined 2 years after it started, BTW). Mad props to "Belize, Brazil, Canada, China, Cuba, France, Guyana, Iceland, Japan, Morocco, the Netherlands, Russia, Spain, the United Kingdom and the United States" for taking care of Haitians!

Aid to foreign countries is a corner stone of US Foreign Policy to maintain its influence and get political support in International Affairs. Besides money assistance in the form of training, equipment and military action has helped US to preserve its interests in foreign countries. Economic uplift of poor countries helps prevent in negative forces like communism to array against capitalism and democracy. It also enables them to become consumer of American Products that helps industrial and business concern of US>

What do you know about Islam?

What do you know about Islam?
Do you know that the Koran has more than a 100 verses exhorting the Muslims to kill the Disbelievers [that is, all the non-Muslims whom they call Kaffirs]? Do you know that under Sharia Law, the killing of a non-Muslim by the Muslim is not a Crime? A Muslim needs only pay "blood money" if the victim is someone from the ahl al kitaab, or People of the Book [read Christian or Jew] and nothing at all to any others [Atheists, Buddhist, Hindus, etc etc] and kill them for being in their way or something that ridiculous ... and, it's not a Crime!? Do you know that under Sharia Law, it's a Crime to convert to any other Religion other than Islam in their lands? And, that it is a Crime [Capital Offense in many Islamic Countries] for a Muslim to leave Islam? Do you know that each and every Muslim is bound by their Religion to fight for the establishing the World of Islam until there is no non-Muslim alive? Do you know that the first thing that the Muslims will do, if ever they gain Majority wherever they are, will be to scrap your Secular Democratic Constitution and replace it with their own Theocratic Islamic Constitution and scrap all your Laws and replace them with Sharia Law? It's happened, recently, in Indonesia and Malaysia which should be more than enough proof, since, before that, it happened in Egypt etc. India and Pakistan is an example of how the Muslims will gouge out land from where they immigrated to as also in Thailand where it has now begun. So, don't think that I'm kidding. I'm not. These are the people that our Liberals and their PC Brigades are supporting and helping them grow in our Countries not knowing that the first thing that will happen to them is that they will be arrested and jailed for the least provocation when the Muslims get into power since Islam doesn't recognize Liberal Thought and doesn't believe in being Politically Correct. However, the Liberals and their PC Brigades don't care how badly they screw the rest of as long as their narrow political gains seem to be met. It's all the rest of us that will have to pay the price for their stupidity. Can we all afford to sit back and let the Muslims proliferate in our lands till they gain Majority here and then show us all their True Colors? Or, should we be doing something to Stop the Spread of Islam when we still can? And, how can we best protect our families, our people and ourselves from the event that will certainly come if the Growth of Islam continues to go unchecked? We all need to seriously act before it's too late. My feeling is that we can start by closing down their Dar ul ulooms, madrases and mosques, calling for the restricting of Muslims from holding positions of Security Importance and ensuring that all Muslims, hitherto holding such positions are removed from Office, banning the burkha on Security Grounds, disenfranchising the Muslims and making it mandatory that they live here on annually renewable Work Permits and Visas only and deny naturalization of their children born here and de-naturalize all those that have citizenship here by birth and, most important of all, restrict their numbers from going above 20 %; ensuring that that, too, is only on Work Permits that allow us to kick them out if they don't have work or try any of their usual shenanigans. Of course, this will mean our giving up some of our Principles of Secularism and Multiculturalism, but then, it's better than ending up slaves of the Muslims to be killed off systematically as is already happening in all Muslim Majority Countries all over the World. I say to heck with being Politically Correct and let's be proactively defensive with these people who have incessantly proved to us that they will never change and will continue on their Path of Destruction and Violence all through tehe 1,400 and odd years of their existence. Of course, the only other alternative left to us is to wait for our inept Politicians to screw things up some more and land in a Civil War with the Muslims when the time comes and have massive losses of life on both sides. Can we, seriously, let it go to that? I do not have any doubt in my mind as to the fact that if we can and do bring about Rules to bear that will preempt the chances of the Muslims really becoming a threat anywhere in the World, not just USA, we will have to give up a lot of our Concepts of Equality, Liberty and Freedom for all. True, the question does arise, if it's the Muslims today, who's next? But, the real question that we all have now, in front of us is - can we afford to let it go into a Civil War and have insensate bloodshed just because we have to let one rabid lot carry on with their Path of Destruction in the Name of their "Religion"? Today, in Egypt, Indonesia, Malaysia etc, the local people there are not armed and cannot fight back and are, hence living subjugated and persecuted and killed. However, in USA, that isn't the case. When it comes to that, most Americans are equally well armed and can take on the fight. But, it will still mean a lot of unnecessary bloodshed. Oh, of course, my wanting to avoid b Oh, of course, my wanting to avoid bloodshed, but, speaking out against Islam makes an "Extremist" which, I'm, guessing is the new term for us after "Hater" and "Racist". Sure, "Moderate" Muslims always say there are a few lines there, and I know there are, that speak of tolerance and call the others, for the present, "misguided Muslims". But, let's face a fact. When that day dawns, we'll see all the so called "Moderate" being real Muslims. So, the question is, can we afford to let it go to that? And what can we do to avoid the inevitable from happening? Or do we just wait and then react, only when the mass murder and killings start? Looks like we might just better start gearing up for the all out War, then.

all major religions pretty much preach the same things, christianity it just as bad.

God gave His Laws to moses, His prophet ... directly .. not thru an angel but ... direct communication. Not only to moses but to ALL God's prophets. They ALL communicated ... directly ... with God ... never .. with an angel. Exodus 3.4 And when the LORD saw that he turned aside to see, God called unto him out of the midst of the bush, and said, Moses, Moses. And he said, Here am I. 1Kings17.2 And the word of the LORD came unto him <prophet Elijah>, saying, 3 Get thee hence, and turn thee eastward, and hide thyself by the brook Cherith, that is before Jordan. 1 Samuel 3:4 That the LORD called Samuel <prophet Samuel>: and he answered, Here am I. these are just a few examples to show that God, the ONLY God there is anywhere ... is the God of the Holy Bible. He gave His Message to mankind thru His prophets ... compare this to islam, where mohd declares he received 'god's' message thru the angel gabriel. the above verses i put up PROVE that God does not speak to His Prophets thru angels. Means God NEVER sent an angel to mohd. so WHICH ANGEL did mohd communicated with? satan 2 Corinthians 11:14 And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light. this is how christians KNOW that mohd played the devil's advocate, an illiterate with no schooling unlike God's prophets ... came up with the book of satan's message carrying contradicting stories of the Holy Bible ... called the koran.
3 :
Islam teaches the Virgin Birth Doctrine, They refer to Jesus as Isa, They believe Jesus died 120 years old. They don't believe he was divine and puts him in the same category as Mohomet being a divine prophet.
4 :
I know that their prophet was a pedophile and a killer.
5 :
nothing much they say its a peace religion but break wars and hatred , violence , you know actions speak louder than words
6 :
Why lie?
7 :
I've read the Koran. Its retarded
8 :
If you first differentiate Islam as a guideline and muslims as followers then you can understand Islam better. According to Sura 109: Al-Kafirún (The Unbelievers) The Quran says to disbelievers, "I do not worship what you worship, nor do you worship what I worship. And I will not worship what you worship, Nor will you worship what I worship. Your way is yours, and my way is mine"" So when you understand this, you'll know many Muslims don't know their religion. In Islam, they recognize other beliefs, even though it's wrong in the eyes of Islam, it's acceptable and they have a right to worship as they choose.
9 :
tl;dr. However, after skim reading I got the impression that you're not fond of Islam. Which is cool, when it's deserved. I'm a leftie but I don't automatically love Islam- when zealous Muslims throw gay people in prison, for example, or when they firebomb churches or synagogues, or kill women for [alleged] adultery, or for that matter have legal systems where a woman's testimony is not equal to a man's. Islam has many faults, but not all Muslims are bad people or practice this behaviour.
10 :
In answer to your question in bold print...absolutely not enough. Although I have heard (and seen references in the Koran) the first 4 things you mention. Here in the US we cannot do as you suggest in shutting down their worship places as we have this little Constitutional protection called freedom of religion. That's a door you do NOT want to open, because if it should apply to the followers if Islam, who's next?? In fact, almost all of what you're suggesting is unconstitutional. Did you know the phrase "Sharia law" is redundant? Sharia implies law, it's all you need to say. I'm not saying we may not face a problem in the future. I understand there are Muslims who are committed to the destruction of our country. Unfortunately, I don't know of a workable solution, either. I'm just saying, "whoa, there!". I think political correctness is nonsense, but you need a refresher course (or an initial one) on the US Constitution and the protections it affords every citizen. You may have some good ideas about immigrants, but the majority of what you suggest is pretty un-American, strictly speaking. Sorry to be so "disagreeable". But I think we need different solutions to this.
11 :
LIAR I can challange you that tell me any Verse of Quran (not out of context) that tell to kill innocent non muslim. It tell when others who attacks and create mischief in land and kill people fight with them but when they repent or seak asylum not just leave them but escort them safily to a place of security. Its always only against evil and criminals. Their is no holy scriptures which says about only peace and they have many times more versus of fighting than Quran Bible even JC himself said to kill those who reject him as their King Gita is all about telling killing is better than seaking peace. And you know nothing about shariah law.
