Want to run away to another country as a minor?

Want to run away to another country as a minor?
A friend of mine wants to pursue his dream of becoming a pro surfer. He wants to run away to hawaii but figures it would be to obvious so he wants to either goto port elizabeth south africa, some where in queensland austrailia, indonesia, fiji, or Easter Island. Hes only thirteen and wont listen to me about not going. so i decided to help him. he wants to know how to get to the country, which would be the best choice and how to do it without getting caught. hes only bringing his computer, a prepaid phone, a backpack of clothes, knife , firstaid kit, and a survival guide 5k ( or some amount of money around that) his surfboard pass port, and some wax, a pair of flip flops and sneakers. he dosent expect to find a home and plans to build a Hut and make some money in some way. please help i have no idea how to help him.

Unless he plans on paddling his board across the ocean he can't get on any international flight without parental permission or enter another country without a visa, so this is a completely impossible plan. Even if he got parental permission, non-citizens are not allowed to just hang out indefinitely in foriegn countries with no money or means of support. Both of you need a reality check before one or both of you ends up in trouble with the law. Best way to "help" him would be to encourage him to deal with his dream realistically, stay in school until he graduates and surf on summers and holidays in places in the States he has access to.

Why did you ask this in water sports

In South Africa, the age of majority is 18, so that plan is out. You can tell him that he can't build a hut on a beach in P.E. either! Maybe you should ask him why he wants to run away. Is his home life bad? Does he perhaps fight with his parents? What has made him so unhappy that he wants to run away? I think that you should perhaps encourage him to speak to an adult he can trust, he doesn't sound very happy.
